Rest in Peace, Poly Styrene!

Anybody who cares probably already heard about this, but whatever. Poly Styrene, the singer for the 70s punk band X-Ray Spex, died yesterday. The X-Ray Spex were one of the first punk bands I got into when I was a teenager. I listened to their record Germfree Adolescents today (admittedly for the first time in a while) and I still definitely recommend them to any punk rock fan. I think that all those years listening to Rancid every day made me forget about how awesome the rest of my record collection is. Anyways, thanks for being such a badass, Poly Styrene!

RIP Poly Styrene!

This news also reminded me of some of the X-Ray Spex clothes I made in 2005-2006, back when I used to put a band logo on almost everything I made. (Those were simpler times!)

The jacket has some stenciled on lyrics from the song "I Am A Cliche". A local girl bought it at Sellout Buyout back in...2005? She was super excited about it and I was super amazed that somebody recognized random punk lyrics. I'm pretty sure that the front of the jacket had more lyrics from the song.

Yes, I wasn't too great at sewing back then, and I LOVED fabric paint. I wonder if whoever bought these still has them? Probably not, I doubt that shirt lasted long. Oh well. OH BONDAGE, UP YOURS!

New stuff! First update in a while...

Has it really been almost two months since my last blog post? Wow. Well, I finally have some new stuff up for sale on my website. I haven't had time to sew anything new (besides the various custom hoodies and leggings that people are always ordering) so all I've got is three tops made by another clothing line and some leopard-spotted mesh leggings.

I've been doing homework like mad ever since the start of the semester. (I'm not kidding. Wake up at 7am, work/sew till 9pm. It's been brutal. I think the only reason I haven't gone insane is that 4 out of my 5 classes are online.) As of now, I'm finished with all my term papers, quizzes, and reading assignments. Which means that I might have some time to actually sew some new stuff this month. I'm itching to get going on some new one of a kind items. I promised my friend Carli that I would make a polka-dot themed line of clothes that she could model for me. She always wears polka-dots, and warned me that she might want to buy everything I make before I put it up on my website. Uh-oh.

After I'm done with finals, I will continue sewing like mad, waiting for my college diploma to come in the mail. Unless I messed something up in my graduation petition, I should have an AA degree in fashion design and merchandising by the end of this semester. (fucking FINALLY...I've been going to community college since 2006!)

What's next? I'll save that for another blog post.

New stuff! These tops were made by 5th Culture clothing. Each top is available in size small, medium, or large.

Leopard tank top, $26
Hot pink newsprint tank top, $29
Striped tunic, $29
Mesh leopard leggings, $9.50 (one size)

This photoshoot was a little random, because I didn't really have a certain theme planned. I just rode my bike around downtown Sacramento the day before the shoot to find some decent backdrops to use. Laura and I ended up taking pictures around some government building, and then next to a random building with red windows. The more locations we use, the harder it gets to find new spots! I know that most clothing websites use basic white backdrops, but I really like taking pictures in new places. Who knows where the next shoot will be.
